Catechesis with the Pastor:
G.K. Chesterton’s Orthodoxy
We will be starting up Catechesis with the Pastor again July 6! But it’s going to be a little different.
We are going to go through G.K. Chesterton’s Orthodoxy, chapter by chapter, discussing his ideas. Orthodoxy is a kind of intellectual autobiography of what led Chesterton to the faith. In my opinion, it is one of the greatest short works on a Catholic philosophical world view ever written. It is something so dear and so formative for me that I read it again every year.
Reading will not be required if you just want to listen or wait to read the chapter until after the class. The book is out of copyright so you can find it for free online or in a number of printed editions.
GK Chesterton was an English convert to Catholicism in the generation before J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, and significantly influential to both of them. He is known for his wit and love of paradoxes. He has been called “The Apostle of Common Sense” and known for defending the common man and common everyday values, while calling us to encounter the world with a primary attitude of wonder.
